TEHRAN, YJC. Combatant volunteering from Iran was killed in Iraq in direct fight with ISIL members.
Mehdi Nowrouzi was killed on Saturday evening while as he was
on fighting to defend the holy shrines in the Iraqi city of Samarra, reports go.
"Last night Mehdi
Nowrouzi embraced martyrdom … while fighting a direct fight with members of the
terrorist Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group,” a statement by a
local Iranian news agency said on Sunday.
This is the second killing of an Iranian fighter in Iraq in
recent weeks.
A senior Iranian military officer was killed back in
December while on an advisory mission to Samarra.
Brigadier General Hamid Taqavi was killed as he was
conducting the advisory mission in cooperation with the Army of Iraq and other
mobilization forces to counter the ISIL militants around the shrine of the
eleventh Shia Imam Hasan al-Askari.
