Belgium Condemns US Efforts to Invoke Sanctions Against Iran

In a massage on its twitter account, Belgium's Permanent Mission to the United Nations slammed US request to restore sanctions against Iran and wrote the United States has no right to interfere in JCPOA.

“For BelgiumUNSC the case is crystal clear: the USA cannot trigger a snapback of sanctions through the JCPOA since it ceased its participation to the JCPOA in May 2018, Belgian mission pointed in its Twitter account.

Moreover, it noted “ It’s the only way to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program,"

"If US mission in the United Nations claims it has triggered snapback next month, Belgium's decisions on how to manage the file will send message to wider world about the (in)validity of US stance," it added.

Earlier, the former supports of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany turned their back to the US move to snapback sanctions against Iran, describing the action as irreconcilable with efforts to support the Iran nuclear deal.

Also, in a letter to the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, made his remarks and said there exist no right to the United States to mistreat Iran’s Nuclear deal established in 2015 between Tehran and other six world powers

Moreover, in response to the United States request to snapback and restore sanctions against Tehran, Deputy Foreign Minister of Islamic republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi made his remarks on his twitter account and calls this proposal null and invalid.

The nuclear deal (JCPOA) was made between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 group of states- the US, the UK, France, Russia, and China plus Germany -in Vienna in July 2015.

The US left JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) in May 2018. The move violated UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that endorses the JCPOA.

From then on US falsely claims that it is still a member of JCPOA in Resolution 2231 in order to be able to continue its attack on the deal.
