Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations: US is not a member in JCPOA and has no right to any request

In response to US secretary of the State, Mike Pompeo’s request to revive sanctions against Tehran, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Majid Takht Ravanchi, made his remarks on his twitter account.

Takht Ravanchi claims the US has no right in JCPOA and any effort to intervene in Iran’s nuclear deal would become nothing but a humiliation.

“Sec. Pompeo yesterday called for full enforcement of UNSCR 2231,

2231 endorsed JCPOA, & US ceased its participation in it. It is in violation of BOTH.

The int'l community rejected US' right to snapback last week.

The US shouldn't try its luck. It'll only be humiliated again." He noted on his twitter account.

US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo has sent a formal request to the UN Security Council to ‘snap back’ sanctions against Iran.

However, the former supports of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany turned their back to this request, describing the action as irreconcilable with efforts to support the Iran nuclear deal.

The nuclear deal (JCPOA) was made between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 group of states- the US, the UK, France, Russia, and China plus Germany -in Vienna in July 2015.

The US left JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) in May 2018. The move violated UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that endorses the JCPOA.

From then on US falsely claims that it is still a member of JCPOA in Resolution 2231 in order to be able to continue its attack on the deal.
