Friday, 20 August 2020 (YJC)_ Deputy Foreign Minister of Islamic republic of Iran names the US request to invoke sanctions against Iran null and void.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran calls US proposal to Snapback Iran’s Sanction void and invalid

In response to the United States request to snapback and restore sanctions against Tehran, Deputy Foreign Minister of Islamic republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi made his remarks on his twitter account and calls this proposal null and invalid.

“US notification is incapable of having legal effect. Its null and void. None of the remaining JCPOA participants considers the notification as effective.” Araghchi noted.

He, moreover, mentioned “We trust the SC will not permit the US to abuse Res 2231 to achieve its stated objective of destroying that very resolution.”

US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo has sent a formal request to the UN Security Council to ‘snap back’ sanctions against Iran.

However, the former supports of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany turned their back to this request, describing the action as irreconcilable with efforts to support the Iran nuclear deal.

The nuclear deal (JCPOA) was made between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 group of states- the US, the UK, France, Russia, and China plus Germany -in Vienna in July 2015.

The US left JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) in May 2018. The move violated UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that endorses the JCPOA.

From then on US falsely claims that it is still a member of JCPOA in Resolution 2231 in order to be able to continue its attack on the deal.
