Tehran, YJC. JICA official says Japanese experts will visit Iran’s Lake Urmia in April.
The
Secretary of Iran’s Desk at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) said
that a team of experts will visit Iran in April to investigate into the
drying-out Lake Urmia.
Ms.
Nakamura along with a team of experts from Japan was guest to Iran’s ministries
of agriculture and energy visiting West Azerbaijan wetlands on Sunday.
She
said "We do not have ample information about Lake Urmia and the tidal wetlands.
For that reason an expert group will be dispatched to the area the coming
April.”
The
Japanese team has so far studied Lake Urmia in terms of ecological circumstances,
incoming flow, coast and island biodiversity, causes for drought, and the
aftermaths of the drought.
The
team then visited Hasanlu Reservoir to investigate the impacts of the reservoir
on the lake as well as on the local agriculture.
They
also stopped at Yadegarlu and Soluz wetlands and studied the ecological
features.
