TEHRAN, October 20 - Iran's ambassador to the UN says the US cannot cover up the crimes Israel commits against the Palestinian children, adding Washington is also the killer of 66 Iranian kids.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Gholam-Ali Khoshroo asked the international community not to allow the rights of the Palestinians to be violated as a result of the bullying by the US and Israel's crimes.
"The situation in Palestine is deteriorating. Only during the March of Return protests in Gaza, more than 200 have been martyred and 22,000 others injured as a result of Israeli violence," he noted, during an address to a UN Security Council meeting which was held on Thursday to discuss the latest status of the Palestinians. "The Israeli regime kills them because they are Palestinians; because it considers them not to be entitled to any rights, not even the right to live," Khoshroo added.
"What the Palestinian protesters want is to return to their ancestral land and to form an independent Palestinian state," the envoy said.
"This is the consequence of 70 years of oppression against the Palestinians, which has continued as a result of US support and the indifference of the Security Council," Khoshroo asserted.
'Israel No. 1 violator of resolutions'
The official reminded that the US had vetoed 44 resolutions targeting Israel at the Security Council, while the regime itself had breached all the 300 resolutions that had so far been ratified against it.
"The regime is the number one violator of the Council's resolutions," he said.
'US more Catholic than Pope'
Khoshroo separately reacted to earlier remarks by the outgoing US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley. Haley had cited the case of Hossein Fahmideh, a 13-year-old Iranian student, who was martyred during the Iran-Iraq war (1980-88), while alleging that the Islamic Republic recruited children to fight in Syria.
The US cannot use such remarks as a smokescreen for Tel Aviv's "brutal killings" of the Palestinian children.
"The US, whose envoy tried to act more Catholic than the Pope for Iranian children, should have said instead that a large number of Iranian children were martyred during the war by the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hossein with the support of the US, itself," Khoshroo said.
"And also that the US is the murderer of 66 Iranian children, who were the passengers of the plane that the US downed in the Persian Gulf in 1988," he concluded.
On July 3, 1988, US Navy guided-missile cruiser the USS Vincennes fired missiles at an Airbus A300B2 of Iran’s flag carrier Iran Air which was flying over the Strait of Hormuz from the port city of Bandar Abbas to Dubai, carrying 274 passengers and 16 crew members. All on board perished during the attack.
