Tehran, YJC. The president has ordered monetary sources to be allocated to the revival of Lake Urmia.
Deputy
Minister of Energy in Water and Water Waste Affairs Rahim Meidani says that
President Rouhani has ordered the necessary fund to be provided in order to recover
Lake Urmia.
The recent
drought in Iran has brought the lake to its lowest water level ever recorder, had
said Mohammad Javad Mohammadizadeh, the head of Iran’s Environment Protection Organization
on August 2, 2012.
Meidani
maintained that there are numerous ways to revive the lake, including the
transfer of water from nearby sources.
He further
added, meanwhile, that as experience has shown elsewhere; transferring water
from other places might have downsides as well, bringing about undesirable
environmental conditions. "Therefore, the job must not be done without
environmental research and evaluations.”
He asserted
that the president pays special attention to the state of the lake, adding that
the government has asked for the necessary amount of money to be calculated in
order to see about the allocation.
"The
president ordered the budget to be provided for once the amount of monetary
sources is calculated,” Meidani added.
