TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -Mexican lawmakers have called on President Enrique Pena Nieto to halt cooperation with the United States.
The Mexican government should suspend joint efforts "in the fight against transnational organized crime" until Trump exhibits "civility and respect that the people of Mexico deserve," the senators said in a non-binding statement approved on Wednesday.
They further slammed the "baseless and offensive comments about Mexico and Mexicans," according to the Associated Press.
They also dismissed stated efforts by the US president to protect the border “militarily.”
The lawmakers urged their American counterparts in US Congress to make Trump deal with Mexico "on the basis of respect and collaboration."
President Trump said earlier in the day that he was deploying National Guard troops on the US-Mexico border.
Roughly 100 guards have already been deployed in the state of Texas and more are reportedly set to be dispatched.
Trump has slammed "caravans" of people coming through the border with Mexico, further blasting the southern neighbor over the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
The Republican president has vowed to crack down on immigration, in part by building a wall on the Mexican order, but has failed to get his complete agenda through so far.
