TEHRAN, March 26 - Junior Iranian judo practitioners have displayed fine athletic skills at the International Masters Bremen in Germany, and been awarded two bronze medals at the prestigious tournament.
TEHRAN,Young Journalists Club (YJC) - On Sunday and the concluding day of the tournament, Ali Qolipour emerged victorious over Uzbek and Dutch opponents respectively in his first two encounters of the minus 60-kilogram weight division.
Qolipour faced a rival from Kazakhstan in the next contest, where he recorded a victory and advanced to the semi-finals.
He, however, conceded a defeat against his strong Japanese opponent in the semi-finals.
The Iranian judoka then prevailed over a representative from France in the third-place challenge and won a bronze medal.
Additionally, Hamidreza Malekzadeh struck an off draw in the first round of the over 100-kilogram weight class.
He later obtained two consecutive victories over French and German rivals, and advanced to the semi-final round.
Malekzadeh could not overcome his German opponent though.
After that, he outmuscled a representative from the host nation, with an ippon in the title challenge and snatched the bronze medal.
The International Masters Bremen kicked off on March 23, and closed on March 25, 2018.
The tournament reportedly attracted some 414 judokas from 15 countries, including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Iran, Japan, Russia, Serbia and Switzerland.
