TEHRAN, Jul 21 -Unlike reptiles and birds, which scarf down large chunks of food or even swallow prey whole, most mammals chew before they swallow. The discovery of the 165-million-year-old remains of a shrew-like animal, Microdocodon gracilis, suggests some of the earliest ancestors of modern mammals chewed before they swallowed, too.
