TEHRAN, May 19, YJC - Spokesman of Iran’s Guardian Council Ali-Akbar Kadkhodaei said that counting presidential election votes is in the priority.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - "Given the importance of presidential election, its votes are counted before counting ballots of the City and Village Councils,” he said in talk show.
Besides picking a president, Iranians inside the country are also voting to choose members of the country’s City and Village Councils.
Some 63,500 polling stations opened at 08:00 local time
(0330 GMT) on Friday for long lines which had already formed around the
country where more than 56 million are eligible to vote.
Polls close at 18:00 (1330 GMT), but voting hours will most likely be extended.
"We have called representatives of presidential candidates to be present in the Guardian Council, raise the election-related issues and pursue them in the council,” Kadkhodaei added.
"We call on observers of the Guardian Council to closely monitor the election and protect people’s votes.”
He said that the Guardian Council is keeping up the same mechanism on the election with more transparent ways.
