TEHRAN, May 17, YJC - Iran’s FM Spokesman says Astana meeting can in some way influence the out com of Geneva meeting.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Iranian FM Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi,
stressing peace as the pivot of Astana and Geneva meetings said, "keeping track
of negotiations on peace and ceasefire in Syria was of two trends; first, Geneva negotiations the 6
th round of which is being held; and second,
keeping track of peace in Syria with role playing of Iran, Russia, and Turkey
in Astana negotiations ultimately leading to some successes in maintenance of
ceasefire”.
Distinguishing between Geneva meeting
and Astana meeting, the FM Spokes man said "in the Geneva meeting the Syrian
groups partake under UN supervision and some countries act as supervisor, yet there
is no certain mechanism to connect Astana meeting to Geneva meeting in an
organized way, thus making no obligation for the to parties in the meeting”.
Ghasemi asserted that the results of
the Astana negotiations can have some effects on the outcome of the Geneva
meeting, and that providing solutions for Syrian crisis is not confined to Astana
meeting, for Syria crisis is too complicated with many players involved in.
The five previous rounds of the
UN-mediated negotiations in Geneva brought together representatives from the
Damascus government and opposition groups but failed to yield concrete results.
