Tehran, YJC. Lawmaker says that allegations on Ahmadinejad’s intention to assign a presidential representative are baseless.

Hojjatollah Khodaee Souri, member of the Board of Directors of the Committee for National Security and Foreign Policy of the Majlis, provided comments on allegations that there are promotional aspects to Ahmadinejad’s recent trip to Caracas and said "This is Iran and we are Easterners with our own beliefs. Therefore the like of Chavez’s act in introducing their successor cannot be implemented here.”

He added "As he used to have close relations with Chavez, the President is trying to keep the same relations with the one who Chavez introduced as successor.”

"If something happens in Latin America it does not mean that the same is going to happen in Iran. In our country the election is based on the nation’s vote,” Souri asserted.

He also said "As President, Chavez named Maduro as a fit choice for his successor. But in the end Maduro was put to referendum and won the title by people’s vote. But of course his presidency is not yet one hundred percent sure and we must wait for the result.”
