TEHRAN, April 5, YJC - A suicide attack by Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group on a school used to accommodate refugees in Iraq’s city of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers northwest of capital Baghdad, has killed at least 15 people, Iraqi sources reported.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC)- A number of Daesh militants, disguising as Iraqi police forces, sneaked in a school at al-Zahor neighborhood in central Tikrit, where a group of war refugees had been accommodated, Iraq’s al-Ghad news website reported early Wednesday.

After holding people in the school hostage and being surrounded by the Iraqi security forces, the terrorists detonated their suicide vests, blowing themselves up and killing 15 residents of the school.

20 other people have been wounded in the attack, the report added.

Iraq has been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the ISIL terrorist group.

The ISIL militants made advances in northern and western Iraq over summer 2014, after capturing swaths of northern Syria.

However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, blunted the edge of the ISIL offensive and in recent months led to liberation of much of the territories occupied by Daesh.
