Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan underlined the importance of economic cooperation between European companies and Iranian firms from Yerevan’s perspective.
"Armenia is fully ready to broaden cooperation between EurAsia and the European Union on the one hand and Iran on the other,” Sarkisian said.
He said that Armenia has good record of historical ties with Iran, adding, "Now given the two countries’ good relations in economic, political and cultural fields, Armenia is a good venue for the presence of the interested European companies in Iran’s market.”
The Armenian president said that his country has exemplary relations with Iran in the region, adding, "Armenia can become the shortest and safest transit path between the ports of Black Sea and the Persian Gulf and North-South corridor can also be used for transit of cargo from Georgia to Armenia and then to Iran and from there to Europe.”
Armenia with an area of about 30,000 square kilometers and a population of three million is located in Caucasus region which declared independence after the collapse of the former Soviet Union in 1991. Armenia has common borders with Turkey, Georgia, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Iran.
