No diplomatic relations with new US administration: Iran
"Whatever has been done so far [in bilateral contacts] was only related to the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action),” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Saturday, pointing to the 2015 nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, including the US.

He added that negotiations between Tehran and Washington were only related to the Iranian nuclear program.

With the end of the discussions about the JCPOA, Iran’s "political contacts” with the US have also been over, the Iranian spokesperson said.

Qassemi made the comments in response to a question about any kind of diplomatic relations between Iran’s Foreign Ministry and the foreign diplomacy team of the new administration in the US.

Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council - the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China - plus Germany signed the JCPOA on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.

Under the nuclear agreement, Iran undertook to put limitations on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.
