TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced in its latest report that Tehran has not surpassed the level of heavy water permitted by a nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.
The quarterly report said on Friday that Iran has not exceeded the permitted level of 130 tons of heavy water required in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) sign between Iran and group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) in July 2015.
The deal has asked Tehran to sell or dilute the extra amount of its heavy water.
The UN agency also confirmed that Iran has lived up to its commitments under the JCPOA.
It said that Iran has stockpiled roughly half of the enriched uranium allowed under the nuclear agreement.
"As of 18 February 2017, the quantity of Iran's uranium enriched up to 3.67 percent U-235 was 101.7 kg," the IAEA said, adding that it is well below the agreed level of 202.8 kilos.
The quarterly report to IAEA member states is the agency’s first since the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, who has on numerous occasions criticized the deal.
