Iran Oil Minister has said that during the country's secretaryship of GECF its most important policy would be the realization of the actual gas price.
Rostam Ghasemi, Iran Minister of Oil, said that with the US obtaining the technology for the extraction and processing of unconventional natural gas reserves (shale gas) the product has gone a slip-down in price in US, European, and Asian markets.

Minister of Petroleum said that Iran would hold talks with all major gas-producing countries in order to arrive at a real price for gas.

As it has obtained the technology for the extraction and processing of shale gas, the US, as a major importer of gas, intends to export LNG cargos. Meanwhile in countries such as Qatar, Australia, Russia, Angola, Mozambique, and some African countries a number of new plans are being set in order for increasing the world capacity for the production of LNG.

Simultaneously with the reduction in gas prices, some countries such as China, India, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Lithuania as countries with no natural gas have signed contracts for the extraction of unconventional reserves. Therefore, drastic gas price reduction has become one of the greatest challenges for major gas producers of the world.

On the other hand, with the decision of the members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in its 14th ministerial summit, Iran was chosen, based on the alphabetical order, as the forum's periodical secretariat in 2013.
