Iranian UN Ambassador Gholam-Ali Khoshrou stressed sustainable peace in the world as he called on the new UN Chief to bravely face contemporary challenges of the world.
Speaking in a UN Security Council meeting, Khoshrou said conflicts are now showing up inside countries in the form of extremism and terrorism, foreign terrorists, terrorist attempts and international organized crimes while the UN was not designed to confront the issues.
He also said that aggression in its classic and common concept is the main root of conflicts.
Occupation of Zionist regime against Palestinian lands, US aggression against Iraq in 2003 and foreign interference in Syria are all examples of aggression mentioned in the UN Charter and continuation of aggression has made the peace landscape in the region dark, the Iranian official said.
The UN should call on its members to prevent spread of hatred across the world and support dialogue and understanding among civilizations, cultures and religions instead, he continued.
The UN and new UN chief should face the contemporary challenges bravely and with political will and mobilize their forces in the long path of creating sustainable peace, Khoshrou noted.
