Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reiterated that the country welcomes ceasefire in Syria.
"Care should be taken not to make any opportunity for boosting terrorists at the time of
ceasefire,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem here in Tehran on Saturday.
He noted that Aleppo victory sent a message to terrorists that they would never succeed in a wrong path they chose through crime and bloodshed.
He expressed the hope that upcoming moves on peace talks in Syria and settlement of Syrian crisis would lead to sovereignty of Damascus across the country, establishing security for Syrians and protecting territorial integrity of Syria.
President Rouhani reiterated that Syrian peace talks should be based on Damascus’ sovereignty across Syria and returning sustainable stability and security to the country.
"Iran, Russia and Russia can succeed in this way through unity and coordination in upcoming moves and planning,” Rouhani said.
Muallem, for his part, said, "There is no doubt that all-out support of the Islamic Republic of Iran had and will have a considerable effect in boosting resistance morale of Syrians against terrorists.”
He also stressed further cooperation and coordination among Iran, Syria and Russia in battling terrorism.
The Syrian official lauded Iran’s important position in the region, and called for improving Tehran’s support for Damascus.
