University of Shiraz and Cyprus International University (CIU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand academic relations between the two countries.
"We are ready to plan and launch cooperation with University of Shiraz," Chancellor of CIU Halil Nadiri said on Sunday, addressing the signing ceremony.
He reiterated that CIU is ready to have cooperation with University of Shiraz in different fields, specially solving problem of Cyprus potable water and launching scientific magazine in the country's international university.
Vice-Chancellor of Shiraz University Seyed Ali Akbar Safavi said that the academic center is determined to further boost scientific cooperation in the international scene.
"We are seeking implementation of memoranda of understanding in a bid to enhance international communications in the true sense of the word,'" he said.
In relevant remarks in late October, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and President of the Cypriot House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris in a meeting in Tehran underlined the need for the further expansion of mutual cooperation.
During the meeting in the Iranian capital, Larijani and Syllouris explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral ties.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran and Cyprus have always maintained cordial relations and will further develop their ties in all areas," Larijani said during the meeting.
He noted that given the geographical position of Cyprus, specially being the closest member country of the European Union to Iran, relations between Iran and Cyprus have always been intimate.
Larijani and Syllouris also discussed the ongoing crises in the region and ways to fight terrorist groups.
The two sides exchanged views about the expansion of banking cooperation to facilitate transactions between Iranian and Cypriot tradesmen.
