Tehran, YJC. The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has supported Iran’s practical measures taken during the course of Iran-IAEA Framework for Cooperation, stressing the country’s right to peaceful nuclear energy.
NAM’s statement supporting Iran’s peaceful nuclear program
was delivered at the IAEA Board of Governors Meeting in March by Iran's
Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi.
According to the statement, NAM welcomes and endorses Iran’s
measures in the IAEA Framework for Cooperation as well as the continued
cooperation between Iran and the IAEA as was stated in the last report issued
by the Director General Yukiya Amano.
The movement has also considered diplomacy and negotiations
as the only appraoch that could lead to a comprehensive and permanent solution
to Iran’s nuclear case, calling on all IAEA member countries to make positive
contribution in this context, according to Mehr news agency.
NAM has also underscored the primary and undeniable right of
all nations to develop, research, produce and use nuclear energy for peaceful
purposes, and declares its opposition to any interpretation that would lead to
banning or restriction of countries’ rights in developing nuclear energy.
While asserting Iran’s decisions in the peaceful use of
nuclear technology must be respected, NAM stressed there must be no pressure or
inappropriate interference in the IAEA’s activities that would threaten the
performance and reputation of the Agency.
