Tehran, YJC. The Iranian Majlis (parliament) has allocated 60 billion tomans (each 2760 tomans making $1) to fighting dust storms.
The budget will go into reviving lagoons and lakes across
the country.
Recently frequent dust storms have hit western Iran, afflicting
life in Khuzestan province the worst.
The issue of dust storms turned controversial as different
entities from the Environment Department to Health Ministry to Majlis MPs took
different positions, something accusing each other of low performance on the case.
Long droughts and lack of regard for the country’s water
reserves have been counted as the main causes for the dust.
However, some maintain that the dust has also to do with
drought in Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and northern Africa.
