Iran on Sunday unveiled a new home-made plane named 'PK2' designed and built by the country's experts, Fars news agency reported.
The plane considered as an escort aircraft was designed by Iran's Dorna aerospace company and was unveiled in the 'Fifth National Exhibition of Science to Action' in Tehran today.
Iran had earlier built the PK1 model of the plane with the US ASTM standards. The plane is due to be sold to entertainment companies and space academies.
In November, Iran announced plans to manufacture light 8-seater passenger planes.
"We will build planes with the capacity of eight passengers in the near future in addition to the present two-, four- and six-seated planes," Managing-Director of the Iranian Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO) Manouchehr Manteqi announced.
He noted that a sum of 530 knowledge-based aviation companies were active in this field, and said, "We have foreseen $100 billion in revenues from exports in this sector."
Manteqi pointed to Iran's advancement in helicopter manufacturing, and said, "We have manufactured four different types of choppers with various capabilities which make them appropriate tools for different missions."
Also in the same month, Manteqi said that Iran had gained the know-how to build different types of drones, and added that Iranian experts were manufacturing a jet plane for regional missions.
"The drone-building industry has been indigenized in the country and we can manufacture any type of drones with any specifications in less than two years," Manteqi said.
He also said that Iranian experts were designing and building an aircraft with jet engines and with flight duration proper for patrolling the regional states.
