Tehran, YJC. Masoumeh Ebtekar has said that measures are being taken to tackle the drought at Hurolazim Lagoon in Khuzestan Province by watering a dried out lagoon.
The lagoon, called Hurolazim, has been considered a major
cause for the dust storm that swept Khuzestan Province.
Speaking at a press conference in Khuzestan capital Ahvaz, Masoumeh
Ebtekar said that "One of the causes for dust storms in the country is the
drought that has caused lagoons to dry out.
She also note that drilling at Hurolazim Lagoon to extract
oil and the construction of the Gotvand Dam are some factors that contributed
to the cirisis
She added that Iran is not going to stop drilling the
lagoon, but devise ways to lessen side effects.
Ebtekar said that since 2 months ago, water is being let
into the lagoon.
She rejected seeking clouds as changing things greatly in relation
to the dust.
She also said that this year, the government spent 150
billion tomans in acquiring air pollution measuring devices.
A recent dust storm in Khuzestan sent many people to
hospitals suffering respiratory problems and forced the government to close
organizations.
