Tehran, YJC. Ministry of Labor has said to tackle unemployment, the economy should create 1.2 million jobs annually.
Deputy Minister Ahmad Meidari in a press conference on
Tuesday asserted that the recurring expenses from unemployment would surely be
in other sectors in order to compensate the effects of unemployment.
Meidari pointed to the number of 600 thousand jobless people in the
public sector in recent years as a factor bringing to the government solely
budget deficit; "increasing the government size is likely actually to consume the
public resources, thus creating problems for government in meeting budget
deficits,” he said.
The official pointed to eliminating stagnation and
inflation, also known as stagflation, as government’s major item on agenda in
economy; "the government would require oil and other incomes to implement plans
to make a way out of stagflation. With 15 million people aging 15-24 swarming
the labor market in 2010s, the government will need to create 1.2 million jobs per
year to curb the unemployment. To do that, the government should add to the
agenda plans to establish public job positions,” he asserted.
Providing comments on economic shocks, Meidari asserted that
several shocks had been seen in Iranian economy in recent years; "exchange rate
shocks during Ahmadinejad administration almost catapulted the dollar’s
exchange rate to three times as its price before,” he noted.
Speaking of foreign goods and services, Meidari said that
imports had soared 3 times in a course of 13 years, with China being the source
of major portion of imports.
