China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Pakistan this week for talks with Pakistani leaders aimed at consolidating political, strategic and economic cooperation, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
Wang will meet with Sartaj Aziz, foreign affairs adviser to the prime minister, as well as call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain during a two-day visit beginning Thursday, the ministry said in a statement.
Local media said Wang's visit is aimed at laying the groundwork for a visit to Pakistan by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Xi postponed a scheduled visit to Pakistan last September due to political turmoil in the country.
