Tehran, YJC. A diplomaic sources have said Tehran's new choice for the post of the United Nations ambassador is set to receive a US visa to start his job in New York, which hosts the UN headquarters.
Iran’s Foreign Ministryintroduced Gholamali Khoshroo as the country’s new envoy to the UN on Wednesday.

His nomination follows months of diplomatic dispute between Tehran and Washington as American officials refused to issue a visa for Iran’s previous choice, Hamid Aboutalebi.

The US barred Aboutalebi visa, accusing him of having links to the students who seized the US embassy in Iran in 1979 for 444 days.

Aboutalebi later rejected the claims, saying that he was merely serving as an interpreter at that time, nothing more. The visa denial was in violation of the 1947 treaty agreement which was a prerequisite for the United Nations' agreement to locate their headquarters in New York.

After Iran picked its new choice on Wednesday, a Western diplomatic source said, "Khoshrou has already been at the Iranian mission (to the United Nations) with the rank of ambassador and unless something crazy comes up, he's going to get his (UN) accreditation."

Meanwhile, Reuters on Wednesday quoted a US official as saying that Washington is aware of Tehran’s appointment of a new UN ambassador.

Asked whether the Iranian diplomat's visa would be approved, the official said, "All visa applications are reviewed individually in accordance with the requirements of US law."Khoshroo used to serve as Iran’s envoy to the UN from 1989 to 1995.
