Tehran, YJC. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has voiced hope for release of abducted national diplomat in Yemen.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Hassan Ghashghavi Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony held on Thursday to celebrate the demise of an Iranian diplomat who was killed in Yemen in 2013 noted that Iran is going to pursue efforts to secure its diplomat Nour Ahmad Nikbakht's release, adding that he is in good health.

The abducted Iranian diplomat was on his way to work from home in the diplomatic area of the Yemeni capital on July 21, 2013, when some gunmen blocked his way, forced him out of his vehicle and took him away.

Nikbakht has been kept in detention in Yemen for more than one year.

On January 18, 2014, Abolqasem Asadi, another staff member at the Iranian Embassy in Sana’a, was shot down by members of a terrorist group outside the Iranian ambassador’s residence in San’a.

The assailants initially attempted to kidnap the Iranian diplomat, but when their efforts were met with resistance, they opened fire on the Iranian diplomat. Having been seriously injured, Asadi passed away in hospital.
