Tehran, YJC. Iran’s Zarif has reiterated the Islamic Republic’s endorsement of international efforts to help find a political solution to ongoing crisis in Syria.
In a meeting with United Nations special envoy to Syria
Staffan de Mistura Tuesday in the Swiss city of Geneva, Iranian Foreign
Minister Mohammad Javad said his country is ready to put its international weight
behind the world body to help bolster efforts for the settlement of the ruinous
turmoil in Syria.
The Iranian diplomat also emphasized his country’s policy of
supporting the Syrian nation’s right in making a decision on its own fate,
calling for "constructive cooperation” among major global players to protect
Syria’s sovereignty and give a proper response to the Islamic State in Iraq and
the Levant which has been committing heinous acts in the country.
In his turn, United Nations special envoy to Syria Staffan
de Mistura welcomed Iran’s proposed peace plan which he said is aimed at
finding a political solution to the ongoing situations in Syria, saying he
would continue talks with the Islamic Republic over the issue.
Last year, the Islamic Republic put forward a peace proposal
which emphasizes a political resolution of the Arab country’s crisis, the
territorial integrity and independence of Syria and also its people’s right to make
decision on their own fate.
