Damage to Iraqi, Syrian infrastructure to thwart regional development

Tehran, YJC. Shamkhani has said the destruction of the economic infrastructures of Iraq and Syria by terrorists and airstrikes by a US-led coalitino hinders growth in Islamic countries.

Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, made the remarks while in a meeting with Adel Abdel Mehdi, Iraqi Oil Minister, in Tehran on Tuesday.

Pointing to the vast opportunities for bilateral and multilateral economic cooperation between Iran and Iraq, as well as its impact on improving the political and security situation in the region, the Iranian politician emphasized innovative approaches based on the regional countries’ domestic capabilities.

He further said that the fall in oil prices is likely to lead to a greater focus by oil-producing countries on reforming their economic mechanism and reducing dependency on oil outcomes.

Based on the Islamic Reputlic’s strategy of Resistance Economy, the country, in addition to immunizing itself against unjust sanctions, will move towards the expansion of economic power through cooperation with neighbor states and reduction of oil influence on political behavior, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council added.

Shamkhani reiterated that destruction of Iraq and Syria’s economic infrastructure by terrorists and the US-led coalition has been an action to inhibit and hinder growth in Islamic countries.
