TEHRAN, YJC. Chairman of Iran's Expediency Discernment Council says the recent advances made by Iraqi troops and local forces against ISIL mark a significant turning point in the history of the war-stricken country.
In his meeting on Monday with visiting Iraqi Oil Minister
Adil Abdul-Mahdi al-Muntafiki in Tehran, Chairman of Iran's Expediency Discernment
Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani hailed the unity among Iraqi
religious and ethnic groups, including Kurds, Shiites, Sunnis and said that no
power would have been able to bring such people to their knees.
The ayatollah further mentioned that the Takfiri groups
cannot continue terrorist activities in a country that enjoys an inclusive
government which is supported by the people and religious leaders.
The senior Iranian politician also invited the Iraqi nation
to increase their support of the government so that it could manage to stop the
violence by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants.
The Iraqi oil minister, in turn, commented on the heinous
acts committed by the terrorists in the areas under its control and provided
comments on the achievements by the Iraqi army and non-official forces in the
fight against the terrorists.
