Tehran, YJC. Iranian deputy FM has described arming Syria’s opposition groups as a recent example of faulty politics.
"Training or arming the moderate Syrian opposition is a new
leaf in the book of mistakes composed by ultra-regional forces that will take the
region further away from a political solution ,” Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Deputy
Foreign Minister for African and Middle Eastern Affairs of the Islamic Republic
of Iran said on Wednesday in a
meeting with German Foreign Ministry
director for Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East Division
Clemens von Goetze in Tehran.
He warned of the consequences of using terrorist groups as a
tool for powers to follow their regional goals and said as a result of some countries’
negligence and support of terrorism, fighters from 108 countries have joined
terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq.
"The Islamic Republic will fight terrorism powerfully,” Amir
Abdollahian noted, adding, however, "fighting this heinous phenomenon requires
collective effort while the parties observe international regulations.”
Goetze, for his part, hailed Tehran’s "effective actions in combatting
terrorism."
The German diplomat also stressed that the only solution to
Syria’s crisis would be a political one.
He further praised the continued consultations between Iran
and his country as constructive.
