Tehran, YJC. Iran’s Rouhani says an article of the Iranian Constitution which proposes public referendum in the process of setting up regulations on certain key issues has so far gone unheeded.

Speaking to an economic conference on Sunday, the President Hassan Rouhani stated that one very important article of the Iranian Constitution has been neglected in the past years.

He asserted that as the country's chief executive, he is interested in putting into practice a part of the Constitution which proposes reliance on the public vote in top-priority economical, social, political and cultural issues instead of referring regulations to the parliament when working them out.

At the same time that the parliament preserves its supreme position as the legislative body, he further said, people should be asked to directly vote on issues which are of high significance for the country and have notable influences on their lives.

He added "This part of the constitution has to be put into action for once after 36 years since the Islamic revolution.”

The Iranian president called for further concentration on the economic sphere and stressed the need for eradicating the economic corruption which he said is conspicuous everywhere.

The Rouhani administration has been grappling with stagflation which president claims are the result of previous bad policies.
