Tehran, YJC. The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday that Iran has not received any proposal from the US for the exchange of prisoners.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham, who was
speaking to reporters, made the remarks as she was asked about an alleged
exchange of Iranian nationals who have been imprisoned in the US with an
Iranian-American prisoner Amir Mirza Hekmati.
Afkham asserted that Iran is sensitive about the fate of its
nationals imprisoned in other countries, noting that nearly 15 Iranians are currently
held in the US.
The Iranian diplomat also said that Iranian prisoners are
held under inhumane circumstances in the US under unsound pretexts.
She further pointed to Iran’s nuclear talks and noted that
the Iranian delegation to the nuclear talks had also held talks with the US negotiators
over the release of the prisoners on the sidelines of their nuclear
negotiations.
The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman further pointed out that
the next round of talks will be held in the Swiss city of Geneva on January 15
and said that the talks are going to be held at the level of deputy foreign
ministers.
She also pointed out that expert-level talks are likely to
be held in the context of the nuclear talks, in case needed.
