Tehran, YJC. A high-ranking Iranian military commander was killed in the battle against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists in Iraq.
Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Public Relations Department announced on
Sunday that Brigadier General Hamid Taqavi was killed in Samarra.
The report added that he was on an advisory mission there.
The statement further noted that Taghavi was killed while acting to his mission
in cooperation with the Iraqi army and popular mobilization to counter the ISIL
terrorists in the vicinity of the shrine of the eleventh Shia Imam Hasan
al-Askari.
Taqavi used to act as a military commander during the 1980-1988 Iraq-Iran.
Sources have announced that a funeral procession will be held for the martyr
at 9:00 a.m. local time on Monday in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
It is further explained that body will be transferred to and buried in Ahvaz,
his hometown, in southwestern Iran on Tuesday.
Tehran has repeatedly pointed out that it will not mediate with military
affairs in Iraq or Syria, but rather would continue to provide support to the
two countries against ISIL in the form of defense consultation and humanitarian
aid.
