Iranian navy repels foreign destroyers from drill zone

Tehran, YJC. Iran’s Navy commander Habibollah Sayyari said on Sunday two destroyers belonging to trans-regional countries had been forced to leave waters where Iranian naval forces are carrying out exercises.


"Over the past days, 2 destroyers which belonged to the ultra-regional countries appeared in 2 areas where the exercises are held,” Rear Admiral Sayyari announced on Sunday.

The foreign vessels were finally forced to leave the zone by being given warnings by the Iranian naval forces, he asid.

"We had already warned that no country or party is allowed to be present about the areas where the wargame is being played out due to security issues,” he added.

The drills are named Muhammad Rasulullah (Muhammad, the messenger of God). They were kicked off on Thursday and are expected to continuye until December 31.

The drills are held at an area of 2.2 million square kilometers which stretches from the northern Indian Ocean (10 degrees latitude) to the Strait of Hormuz situated in the Persian Gulf as well as in the southern and southeastern Iranian provinces of Sistan-Balouchestan and Hormozgan.
