Tehran, YJC. Iran's Larijani says that the Islamic Republic has always supported the democratic policies of the neighbor Iraq.

Iran's parliament speaker Ali Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Salim Al-Jabouri.

The Iranian lawmaker pointed out that Iraq plays a pivotal role in establishing regional peace and tranquility in the Middle East.

Larijani further called for the expansion of parliamentary relations between Tehran and Baghdad.

The Iranian politician left Iraq's holy city of Najaf for capital, Baghdad on Wednesday morning.

Larijani arrived in Najaf on Tuesday Heading a high-ranking delegation. There, the senior lawmaker held talks with some prominent Iraqi clerics including ayatollah Sistani and visited the holy shrine of Shia Imam Ali.

He is also going to with Prime Minister Heidar Al-Ebadi, President Fuad Masum and Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari.

The Iranian Majlis speaker started his regional tour on Sunday, visiting Syria and Lebanon before he went to Iraq.
