Tehran, YJC. Iran’s parliament speaker has met with the Syrian President Bashar Assad.
"The government and nation of Iran stand by
the Syrian people and are prepared to expand full cooperation with the Syrian
government in order to help regional stability and security,” Ali Larijani said
in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Sunday.
He
noted that the Syrian government’s efforts to protect the country’s territorial
integrity and counter terrorists should be appreciated.
Since
the start of the crisis in Syria, Iran believed that the ongoing developments
in Syria were aimed at propagating terrorism, violence and instability in the Middle
Eastern region, the Majlis speaker said.
A
deadly crisis has afflicted Syria since March 2011. The ISIL terrorists, who
control parts of Syria and Iraq, are engaged in crimes against humanity in the
areas under their control.
Over
200 thousand people have been killed so far in the conflict going on in Syria,
according to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein.
Bashar
Assad, for his part, said his government is seriously following plans on
uprooting terrorism and extremist ideology while working on reaching national
reconciliation at the same time.
