Tehran, YJC. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, Turkmen President, has granted amnesty to 37 Iranian nationals held in Turkmenistan’s prisons, an Iranian diplomat announced on Sunday.

"Following the Iranian foreign ministry’s efforts and well as those by the country’s embassy in Ashgabat, 37 Iranian prisoners were granted pardon by the Turkmen president…,” Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Iranian Expatriates Affairs Hassan Qashqavi stated.

He pointed out that the pardon was granted to the Iranian convicts on the occasion of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality Day, which the country holds on December 11 each year.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry official also said that the freed prisoners will travel to Iran within the next two days.

A number of Iranian and Turkmen prisoners were also freed over the last month and transferred to their native countries.

Media reports say that Iran and Armenia are also engaged in talks to sign an agreement on the extradition of criminals in the near future.
