Millions storming Iraq to attend Arba’een

Tehran, YJC. Iraqis are serving millions of Muslims from around the world and the country itself, people who are storming to the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf to commemorate Arba’een.

Two holy Iraqi cities this year have opened their arms to fellow Iraqi’s who have been displaced due to the violence fueled by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists in areas of Iraq.

Iraqi forces have tightened security measures to protect pilgrims against extremist attacks ahead of the Arba’een rituals.

The annual congregation of Arba’een is reportedly turning into the most crowded gathering around the globe, regardless of across faiths and creeds.

Records go that in 2013as many as 20 million people attended the event. This is something that many regard as a show of solidarity among the Shia muslims despite geographical diversity.

This year, eighteen million Shia Muslims have flocked the holy shrines in Iraq while still 3 days are left to the day of Arba’een.

Iranian officials said that the country’s share of participants has reached 1 million this year, as lovers of Imam Hussain storm border exists to Iraq, on occasions bringing the traffic to a stand-still.

Arba’een marks 40 days following the martyrdom anniversary of Shia Imam Hussein, the third Imam and grandson of Prophet Muhammad (BPUH).
