French President Emmanuel Macron spoke by telephone Sunday morning with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Elysee Palace issued a statement saying:
Abbas congratulated Macron on his re-election. President Macron also expressed concern about escalating tensions and the deteriorating situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
According to the statement, Macron condemned the continuation of the settlement policy of the interim Zionist regime and stressed France's unwavering commitment to respect for the legitimate rights of the Palestinians.
The statement said:
Macron announced his readiness to help contain any tensions [between the Zionists and the Palestinians] as well as to host further talks aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.
The French president stressed his special attention to the holy sites in occupied Jerusalem he visited in January 2020, as well as the stability and security of all stakeholders in the region.
Macron also offered his condolences to Abbas and the Palestinian people on the assassination of Al Jazeera reporter "Shirin Abu Aqla" and stressed the importance that France attaches to fully clarifying the reason for his death.
Earlier, the State Department of the Palestinian Authority issued a statement calling on the International Criminal Court to investigate the crimes of the Zionist regime. The Palestinian Authority said in a statement that the silence of the international community and the US government in the face of the crimes of the occupying regime in Jerusalem is a cover for these crimes and an obstacle to the regime's trial.
In this regard, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that 62 Palestinians have been martyred since the beginning of this year due to the escalation of unprecedented tensions in the occupied Palestinian territories.
On Thursday morning, Zionist militants killed one resistance fighter and wounded six others during an attack on the town of Yabd in Jenin.
