Thursday, 2 June 2022 (YJC)_ The Caspian Sea plays an important role in the transfer of energy to different countries of the world, due to increasing energy demand in Europe and rising fuel prices, the European Union has begun the process of diversifying energy sources.

The special place of the Caspian Sea in the transfer of energy to EuropeNormirat Mamayev, an expert in political science and international relations from Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey, points to the growing importance of the Caspian Sea and its role in energy transfer.

He stated in part of his analysis:
In recent years, the importance of the Caspian Sea for the Caspian littoral states and other countries in the region has increased.

On August 12, 2018, in the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, during the Fifth Summit of the Caspian littoral states, the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea was signed. After resolving the legal status of the Caspian Sea, cooperation between the littoral states gradually expanded. Transport routes across the sea as well as pipeline routes were included in important directions.

The world's largest transport companies are in Denmark, France and Switzerland, which are looking for new routes to replace the Russian corridor.

The route through the Caspian Sea is the most profitable alternative. Therefore, it can be assumed that the volume of freight transport in the region will increase in the future.

With the start of freight transport to Europe via Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, as well as the development of Russian-Azerbaijani trade cooperation with Turkmenistan, the volume of freight road transport through the Caspian Sea has increased.

Turkmenistan's strategic geopolitical position in the West-East Sea and the launch of a new transport system as a result of investment in transport infrastructure over the past few years have strengthened the country's role in the Caspian Sea.

The Caspian Sea also plays an important role in energy transfer. Due to rising energy demand in Europe and rising fuel prices, the European Union has begun the process of diversifying its energy resources.

The European Union is working to reduce its dependence on the energy market and is exploring new import routes.

In addition, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said during her visit to Cyprus on April 7 this year:
It is expedient for EU countries to create new routes for natural gas imports.

The project to import Turkmen gas to Europe is beneficial for EU countries. In this regard, the projects planned for implementation in the Caspian Sea will help to increase its importance in the short term.
