Tuesday, 31 May 2022 (YJC)_ Ukraine's foreign minister has expressed frustration with the length of his EU membership process, calling for Kiev to be nominated as a candidate.
Following reports that some European countries were blocking the progress of Ukraine's EU membership process, the Kiev government also criticized the length of the process.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kulba said Monday evening that Kiev was tired of the EU's excuses for special solutions and separate models for joining the bloc and wanted full membership.
According to Reuters, Kolba said after meeting with his French counterpart in Kiev:
We need clear legal confirmation that Ukraine is part of the EU integration project, and that such approval is the granting of candidate status.
The Ukrainian president's press office also reported that Volodymyr Zelinsky, in a meeting with the French foreign minister, said that Kiev was counting on Price's support for granting Ukraine candidate status for EU membership.
The European Commission, as the executive arm of the union, will announce its opinion on Ukraine's candidacy in June. Even if the request is approved, the process can take several years and can be vetoed by any EU member state.
