The Israeli military was surprised by a report in the New York Times that Israel had informed the United States about the assassination of Hassan Sayad Khodaei.
"[Israeli] security forces' anger over US leak of information about the assassination of a senior Iranian official in the New York Times," the newspaper quoted Tel Aviv as saying.
There are concerns that the New York Times report could lead to the targeting of key Israeli individuals as revenge targets.
