Tuesday, 24 May 2022 (YJC)_ Referring to the need to strengthen Moscow's relations with Beijing, the Russian foreign minister said that imports of Western goods should be stopped to ensure economic security.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday morning called for an end to imports of goods from Western countries.
"Lavrov said in a statement:
Russia will rely only on itself and countries that have proven to be trustworthy and do not follow the path of others.
According to the Sky News website, he explained:
We must stop importing goods from the West to ensure the security of our economy.
The senior Russian diplomat also spoke about Moscow-Beijing relations:
Economic relations with China will be strengthened more rapidly after the dictatorial positions of the West.
Reacting to anti-Russian remarks by European and American officials, Lavrov stressed:
Western politicians who say Russia should be defeated have little information about our country's history.
He also added:
If the West wants to restore stability to relations, Russia will think about it.
Western countries, led by the United States, have imposed extensive sanctions not only on Moscow but also on Belarus since the start of Russia's special military operation in the Donbas region, under the pretext of helping Russia fight the war in Ukraine.
