Monday, 23 May 2022 (YJC)_ A severe storm in Canada has killed at least eight people and cut off electricity to more than 500,000.
Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in at least eight places across Canada, and officials say more than 500,000 people have been cut off.
According to Reuters, the storm and tornado that hit Canada for more than two hours on Saturday evening caused a lot of damage in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario. Wind speeds of more than 132 kilometers per hour have broken trees, uprooted trees and overturned many power transmission towers.
Electricity companies were trying to recover power lines on Sunday, according to the report. Canadian officials say most of the casualties from the storm were from falling trees on cars and pedestrians.
The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau said that the federal government is ready to help the needy and the injured. Trudeau tweeted on Sunday:
We think of all the victims and thank the staff who are working to restore and reconnect the homes.
