Iranian Army's Deputy Commander for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that naval forces have succeeded in protecting the security of oil tankers.
“Since 2008, 5,000 oil tankers and commercial ships in international waters have been protected by naval forces,” he noted while adding these forces have also thwarted numerous pirate attacks to secure the safe passage of the ships in Iran's territorial waters.
He also put emphasis on the fact that “Iranian armed forces are capable of defending the interests of the country even at a distance of 2,500 km off Iran’s coasts”.
