Tehran, YJC. Iran’s parliament speaker Ali Larijani said tough action, not propaganda campaign, is needed in the fight against the ISIL terrorist group.

The only way to wipe the terrorist groups off the region is fighting a serious and firm battle, not launching tactical methods and propaganda techniques, Larijani said in a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in Tehran on Monday.

He also asserted that the three-year crisis in Syria can be resolved only through political means.

The visiting Syrian diplomat, for his part, praised Iran for adopting a "correct and principled” approach toward the crisis in Syria.

The Arab country has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Takfiri terrorists currently controlling parts of it mostly in the east.

For more than three years the US and its regional allies have been supporting the militants operating in Syria.

According to the United Nations an estimated 200,000 people have been killed in over three years of fighting in the war-ridden country.
