Saturday, 14 May 2022 (YJC)_ The Ukrainian president said his French counterpart had proposed the transfer of part of Ukraine to Russia to end the war and condemned the move.

Zelenskyy's anger at Paris' offer on UkraineUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was outraged at the suggestion of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to cede part of Ukrainian territory to Russia.

According to the Yahoo News website, Zelenskyy said: ‌
Maybe Emmanuel knows more, I know he wanted to mediate between us but he failed. He failed not because of our positions but because of Russia.

The President of Ukraine added:
It is not right for world leaders to suggest that I have to make sacrifices in terms of sovereignty over Ukraine to allow Putin to maintain his image.

"Russia will not look for a reasonable way to end the war until it realizes it has to leave Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.
Ukraine is not ready for one person to cede part of its territory.

"Crimea and Donbass are still part of Ukraine," he said.
I believe that this [proposal] is completely unjustifiable. This is a waste of time.

He also said:
Emmanuel must refrain from making a series of diplomatic gestures. I welcome his re-election. However, history does not forgive these deviant steps. If you want to take back something that belongs to you, there is only one way forward.

Macron has had several contacts with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, since the start of the Ukraine war.
